AKIRA first opened in 2002 as one Women’s boutique in the trendy Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. AKIRA now offers a  full-line of Women’s clothing, footwear, and accessories, serving customers around the world on their E-Commerce site (shopakira.com) as well as their 32 stores.

With over 70% of AKIRA’s traffic coming through mobile, they wanted a performant and instantaneous mobile site to provide the optimal shopping experience for those mobile customers.  In 2019, AKIRA partnered with MoovForge to develop a Progressive Web App (PWA) on Layer0 as well as Layer0’s React Storefront.

Immediately upon launching the PWA on Layer0, AKIRA saw their initial page load improve from 4.5 seconds to 1.4 seconds (67% improvement), as well as browsing transitions improving from 2.5 seconds to 400 ms (84% improvement).  The flexibility of Layer0 including CDN as code, caching, and pre-fetching make these speeds not only target goals but actual achieved and delivered results.  The impact of these impressive speeds greatly improve the customer shopping experience and has led to a 45% increase in Conversion Rate as well as a 67% increase in Revenue.

With Google’s announcement that Core Web Vitals will be incorporated into their search algorithm in May of 2021, the next step was to ensure AKIRA’s mobile site was passing these measurements as well as delivering top of the industry Lighthouse scores. Layer0’s professional services arm, MoovForge, performed a full CWV analysis, provided recommendations along with testing results, and implemented these changes. Lighthouse scores on AKIRA’s mobile site improved from 32 to 100 and also achieved passing scores on all 3 Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS).
